Why my computer is so messed up? I have to run anti this anf that everyday?

I have windows defender, firewall, AVG antivirus. Also I have free version of Superantispyware and Ad-aware 2007.

The last two I have to run them everyday, Ad-aware finds average of 130 infections everyday! Only my dad and I use this computer, I took a look to his account settings and everything seems to be in order. It just took me around an hour to get the computer to work, had to reboot twice and is still ridiculously slow, but if I reboot again is start from the beginning. The slow can't be memory related because the harddrive memory is mostly unused.

This is really making me miserable, I am studying computer science and I can't run the compiler, thus can't do homework.

Any idea what is wrong with this machine?

I use Panda on our customers, its by far one of the better ones out of the lot, speed is ok even for older PC and detection is high, the Internet Security Suite is what I would suggest as it also handles spams in a normal way, rather than changing your ISP settings .

...until it becomes so outdated or worn out that I have to buy a new one? It's a HP that was purchased on August of 2002.

Only your RAM and Processor are getting outdated. Get SP2 and you can run for a few more years.

Avast scans just about everything, but will not block things like a firewall. An alternate choice, is to run your favorite free Antivirus, with your favorite free firewall. I have used Avast and ZoneAlarm (From ZoneLabs) in conjunction and it worked great. There are many free firewalls out there that you can look at.

Not all companies make Linux drivers. The reason is because Linux doesn't hold a good market share and they think it is a waste of time to do it for anything other then Windows. NIvidia should seeing how ATI makes Linux/Unix drivers. The distro really dosen't matter. You can also look for third party drivers that have been coded by regular users on Linux.

Firstly my thanks to the many who unselfishly and patiently answered my earlier question. I have in the past installed "free" software such as NOD 32 antivirus system and AVG Anti- spyware version 7.5. However I was told that I cannot update these and so it seems that after a few weeks or months such software becomes ineffective against any new viruses, worms, trojans, spyware and malware. NOD-32 and AVG Anti- spyware 7.5 are not free programs. You have the trial versions.

However:

AVG Free and AVAST Free Antivirus programs can be updated as often as you want. In Fact they update automatically (for free). AVG also has a Free spy ware and rootkit programs. But the 7.5 is not the free one.

Google "AVG Free" and you will be taken to the correct web site for downloading the Free ones.

I use AVG and AVAST on different computers. I have AVAST on my Vista machine and it works just fine. I have AVG Free on an XP Pro machine and have been using it for years without any problems.

I also use AD-Aware 2007 and SpyBot Search and Destroy 1.5 for spyware removal.

I suspect that this in itself is a virus. What shall I do to stop this. I have already downloaded comodo firewall which is absolutely for free and pc ools anti-virus but the diague boxes and windows keep on coming back?

All that and you left out clues to identifying the malware. My best guess is that it is either a Smitfraud/zlob trojan or Vundo.

There is one free commercial program that has had success removing both. Super Antispyware.

Once you use it look at the log and see if it has identified either of the two I mentioned above.

Install Super Antispyware free. Run it in safe mode. Allow it to quarantine whatever it finds.

I use AVG and Anti-Vir for my anti-viruses. They are both free and work great together. As far as a firewall goes you can go to Zonelab website and download Zone Alarm for free. I use all three programs on my computer and haven't run into a single problem.

I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. Most free programs that people swear by on here make me lots of money. I'm not a know it all, but what I do know is from expeirience in the field or at a work bench.

Out of the last 25-30 Virus Issue service calls:, 16 of them had free anti-virus programs.

The others were because they either didn't have any or just didn't update the big ones from Symantec and McAfee.

This is worth the purchase.

I use Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Classic and AdAware 2007 on a Vista Business machine.

My computer is slow. I have three Sims 1 expansion packs (about 20 MB), adaware, zonealarm, firefox, sonicstage, and avg antivirus. I have 62/74 GB free space on my computer but it's still slow.

Im wondering if I can get ram in a stick that goes with the USB, and does Sims have to be installed to the harddrive or can I move it to the external memory, if thats even possible?

you can get usb sticks and move whatever you want to the drive, but you can't actually run any programs off of the usb stick. you need the .exe files on your hard drive. you might want to look into increasing your ram. it doesn't sound like the space on your hard drive is the problem.

First, Get rid of Ad-Aware and Windows Defender.

Then go to http://pack.google.com/ and select Spyware Doctor. Its a starter edition of Spyware Doctor thats free for life and provides Real-Time protection

Install other apps in the pack if you want.

Then once installed run Spyware Doctor and wait for it to analyze and then update it. Then run a scan and it'll hunt down the pests then whalla.

I will only disagree with the first answerer in one respect, I'd put Avast first. I've used Avast for nearly 5 years, and never had a virus get past it. Had several try, one recently in an email. Avast sounded an alarm when I opened my Outlook mail box. All I had to do was delete the suspect message, then empty the deleted box and it was gone.

Thats what I have. Just add SuperAntiSpyware. Its free also.
I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following linkhttp://www.computeractive.co.uk/. On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps
